I’ve been using the terms “best life” and “dream life” lately and it recently made me reflect on this journey and how far we’ve come.
When Rajan and I got married, we moved to Indianapolis where we knew nobody and he started medical school. 4 years of hard work, studying and lots of debt lol.
I worked full-time and was just always exhausted. Exhausted after coming home after a long day of work and feeling the pressure to cook, clean, workout, all in the few hours before bedtime. Five days a week. A never ending cycle.
One year ago, I lost my full time job as a talent acquisition manager and became a “blogger” “content creator” “influencer” (whatever the world is calling us these days lol) full time. My best life.
Does it require hard work? Duh. So I hear no’s all day every day? Yes. Is it mentally draining? Yup.
But. I’m not exhausted. I love waking up every day, to no alarm and sleeping when I want, with no pressure of waking up at a certain time. I love deciding every day, what I want to do and how I want to spend my day. Most importantly, I love the flexibility. I remember only being able to come home to my family for weekends and we’d drive to save money on flights so I’d get 24 hours of family time and 18 hours of driving. Now, I stay home for 1-2 weeks and enjoy every second of filling my cup.
We aren’t “rich” or “wealthy” by any means. Rajan just started residency and I’m making enough for us to live the lifestyle we want. But when you go through financial struggle, thinking 10 times before buying a candy bar at a gas station, choosing red eye flights to save more money — you quickly understand the value of money. The beauty of humble beginnings.
We are not wealthy or rich, but we are living our best life. The ability to buy what we want, within our means, is a blessing we won’t ever take for granted.
So I wanted to clarify, our best life is a life full of freedom. It’s not about the money or status, it’s about the freedom of time and ability to live our life without financial constraints. And our dream life is a life full of freedom, with a home full of babies. 💛
And the beauty of life is that your best life and dream life can look completely different than ours ✨
